In the olden days, there was a king named Hiranyakashipu. This king wanted to take revenge on Lord Krishna because he killed one of his brothers.King prayed for years to gain power and finally granted a boon. This king has a young son named Prahalad who was the great Devotee of Vishnu. Prahalad kept on worshiping Lord Vishnu and never obeyed his father’s order. The king was decided to kill his son because he refused to worship him. King asked his sister Holika to sit on fire with Prahalad in her lap who was immune to fire. They planned to burn Prahalad but,their plan doesn’t work because Prahalad chants the name of Lord Vishnu throughout was safe but, Holika got burnt to ashes. The defeat of Holika indicates the flaming of all that is terrible. After this, Lord Vishnu killed Hiranyakashipu. The death of Holika is associated with Holi. After the death of the Holika, people started to celebrate the Holi Festival as a festival of colors. And it was known to be the victory of right over the wrong one. This was the victory of Prahlad’s pray, holiness Holi is celebrated as a festival of love.
Importance of Holi:
It is the festival of colors and celebrated in the season of Vasant Panchami. It is the time when the winter season ends and summer season enters. It starts on Full Moon Day i.e., in the evening of Purnima, in March. Lord Krishna as a child had a blue when he fed poisoned milk. When he grew up and saw his color as odd one with blue color skin, he would keep irritating his mother about it. He has love named Radha who was very fair and he was troubled with the questions about that would she love me with this color? Tired of these questions his mother asked Radha to color any one color which u wants. Krishna happily did and since then on this day, which marks the day of Holi.
Holi is celebrated in every part of the country and it is one of the most celebrated festivals in India. Holi celebration starts before night with Holika Dahan, where people perform rituals by lighting up a bonfire, and the following day is called Holi. In different parts of the country, Holi is known with different names.
On the day of the Holi festival, people play with different colors with their friends, families, with no difference in age, caste, poor or rich, everyone is equal to enjoy this, if they have any misunderstandings it separates, & treats in a feeling of friendliness, joy. Colors add to the sacredness of the festival results in a sense of friendship, freedom, and connectivity.
